Community Values Magazine
You may be wondering, John, where the heck have you been all summer? Well, uh, I’ve got a bit of a story to tell you.
I Got Laid Off
Many of you may know that I worked for Mix 1 0 4 1 as the commercial production director. I was with them for about 25 years, and you’ll note the past tense. Uh, back in March, I was promoted to the position of listener. Yes, the company I worked for went through a large reduction in force. They let go about 300 people.
And I was unfortunately caught up in that and I thought, what the heck am I gonna do next? It was, you know, not a lot of fun, kind of a curve ball, not totally surprising, uh, because they did go through a planned bankruptcy. I’m not telling anything out of school because it’s all public knowledge. Um, but once, and I made it through that. And then back in March, they decided they needed to cut costs. And well, here I am. Uh, so what am I gonna do? Well, I decided to really jump in on this podcast, but also decided for right now, at least, radio is not in my future. I’ve done that. I’ve, I did it for about 30 years, but advertising is still in my future. And so to that end, I’ve got some exciting news I wanna share with you.
I Bought A Magazine… (Actually 3 Magazines)
I purchased the rights to magazines that many of you receive in your home every three months.
It’s the Community Values Advertising magazine. And there are three different magazines that get mailed.
We Mail to 67,000 Households!
We mail to about 67,000 households in:
Quincy
Milton
Braintree
Weymouth
Cohasset
Hingham
Hull and
Situate.
What I want to do is interview the business owners who advertise in the magazine and support them, and I also want to have guests on this show also promote their businesses in the magazine, kind of cross pollinate. This is all about staying local, broadening the local sphere from just beyond Quincy, but in these eight communities that comprise the northern South Shore area, if you will. So I’m excited to share that with you. And one of the reasons why I held back was I was really busy learning all the ins and outs of getting advertisers, meeting current advertisers, and going through the process of bringing this publication to life and bringing it to print.
And so my first magazine should be hitting your mailboxes between Wednesday, September 10th, which is tomorrow as of this recording through Friday, September 12th. And I’m really excited about it because I’ve got a lot of new advertisers in there. My goal is to grow this magazine and get some really good values for you, the listeners of this podcast, and just bring about and support local businesses. ’cause that’s what the all about Quincy Podcast’s mission was from the get go.
